David Robinson
One of the traditionally trained Journeyman bookbinders, David served
his apprentice at Hull Bindery under Brian Osbourne, going on to complete his
City and Guilds, after a year at Hull College and three years at Kitson College
in
Leeds. With an eye for detail and an intricate understanding of book
structure David has often been called upon by clients to come up with something
a little out of the ordinary. His tactile approach to bindings combined with
inspiration from more organic forms has lead him away from his traditional
roots into a whole new area of binding design. Crossing these pieces in
traditional boundaries has produced some striking new both "puckered" and
"Lacnoise" style binding whilst still retaining traditional structural detail
and functionality. The freshness of the colours combine with the choice of
materials used have produced not only a book that looks good but feels
wonderful in the hand it just doesn't want to be put down.
